I took a look. I see nothing wrong with an individual blogging about their business. Corporations do it. So why can't an individual?
Per Wikipedia.com: A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs, either used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs.
I don't see anything wrong with having different types of blogs. A blog can be personal, for a group, for a hobby/interest, for a business - whatever you want to write about.
Sounds like this woman should have been asking for a "mommy" blog or a parenting-interest blog.
All blogs are real blogs, though she might have simply meant blogs where people write about what they are thinking versus posting advertisement/contests/stuff like that.

I hope this helps.
